More than half of Aucklanders yet to vote know ballot mail deadline

HorizonPoll reveals majority of people yet to vote in Auckland’s first super city elections don’t know when to return ballot papers.

Fifty one per cent don’t know voting closes at noon, Saturday October 9, 2010.

More than 56% don’t know voting papers need to be posted by 5pm Wednesday October 6 to guarantee delivery.

And 82% don’t know that on election  day they can also return their voting papers to any of Auckland’s public libraries.

Some 15% also say they haven’t received their voting papers.

These are the findings of the first HorizonPoll super city voting progress survey, conducted September 23-24, 2010, covering 570 Auckland Council voters. Weighted by age, gender, ethnicity, personal income, employment status and party vote 2008, the survey has a maximum margin of error of +/- 4.1%.
