Who Kiwis most trust and distrust
Finance companies top the distrusted list

A major Mood of The Nation HorizonPoll for the Sunday Star Times finds Kiwis least trust finance companies - and most trust ambulance officers.  

 

The top most distrusted are finance companies (55.5%), telemarketers (54.2%), used car sales people (51.1%) and Members of Parliament (49.4%).

 

Most trusted are ambulance officers (89.8%), fire fighters (82.1%), nurses (79.9%) and doctors (71.2%).

 

Kiwis have high trust in internet banking (sixth at 66.9%), but only 37% trust bankers.

Meantime, more than 90% of New Zealanders trust each other some or all of the time, to the extent that 4.1% leave their homes unlocked all the time.

 

That means about 65, 600 of New Zealand's about 1.6 million dwellings are left open.

Most don't believe they will be serious crime victims during the rest of this year.

However, 9.4% think fear that is likely. That means about 114,868 of the about 1.222 million New Zealanders over the age of 18 fear they will become a serious crime victim.

Survey results cover 2100 respondents between January 7 and 13, 2011. Weighted by age, gender, ethnicity, personal income, region and party vote 2008 the maximum margin of error at a 95% confidence level is +/- 2.2%.
